The Bestiary

Man is the Real Monster

For all the negative press and hysterical folklore surrounding the critters, creatures and creations detailed below, there is something to be said for the theory that it is mankind's encroachment on the territories of these beings - either physically or psychically - that has caused the recent spike in sightings, interactions and, yes, even attacks. But even when the human "victim" did not provoke the creature, it is difficult to argue that they were not trespassing on land, waters or airways that do not belong to humanity - and the sooner we accept the severity of our invasion and make some efforts to repair or at least slow the scars we leave in the natural world, the sooner these creatures and creations will have no reason to react to our mere presence with the violence that is, frankly, currently justified.

Ghosts & Ghouls

A malevolent spirit

Spirits from beyond, or souls trapped after their bodies have perished? Why are they here, and what do they want? No-one can say for certain, but their presence is rarely welcome, and often terrifying.

The Sasquatch

Bigfoot, from the Patterson-Gimlin film

Arguably the most famous of all cryptids despite its pedestrian appearance and low numbers of direct interactions, the Sasquatch, commonly referred to as "Bigfoot", was popularised by the amateur footage captured by the Patterson-Gimlin expedition in 1967.

Extra-Terrestrials & UFOs

A so-called 'Unidentified Flying Object'

Not all the monsters and mayhem reported to The Watchman are from this planet. Strange, silent spaceships that soar through the night sky in search of test subjects are not just the realm of thrilling science-fiction television, but could present a real and present threat to our personal, national and global security. Whether they are friend or foe, these secretive spacemen have made no public attempt to divulge their intentions with the population of this planet, and our governments remain worringly tight-lipped about their own encounters...
